bid72 caters to an international clientele. Hence, its primary language for website and newsletters is English. The app is multi-language, currently English and Dutch, more languages to come. The Topic collection is in English and Dutch, as is the bid72 User’s Guide. Some communication about country-specific features can be in languages other than English.

Bepaalde communicatie over landspecifieke zaken, zoals de Nationale Biedwedstrijd, kan in andere talen luiden, in dit geval in het Nederlands. What does the 72 in ‘bid72’ stand for?

What is in bid72?
bid72 delivers an unlimited number of randomly dealt boards that can be bid with an unlimited number of partners. After each hand is fully bid, both players will receive a rating depending on the contract reached. In addition, bid72 maintains a real-time classification available 24/7. bid72 is typically suitable for intermediate, advanced and expert players.
Is the scoring IMPs or matchpoints?
In bid72 the scoring is IMPs.
Can I use my own bidding system and conventions?
You can use any system and bidding methods: Two-over-one, SAYC, Acol, Precision, or just your own system. The key is to get to the optimal contract; how you get there is your choice.
Can I choose my own partner?
There are no restrictions to with whom you can bid, as long as your partner, like you, has a valid bid72 account. You choose your own partner. And you bid with live partners. There are no robots.
Can and will North and South interfere in the bidding?
This is possible and may or may not happen, depending on the hand and how it was dealt based on bid72‘s specially developed algorithms.
How will I know the meaning of a competitive call?
If a competitive call is followed by a asterisk (*), you can see its explanation by clicking on it. If there is no asterisk, its meaning is natural and usual.
Can partners chat while bidding?
Yes they can, both during and after the bidding. In the upper right-hand corner of each board – finished or unfinished – there is a chat symbol.
Are the hands, bidding and results stored by bid72?
Via the archive function you can recall all hands you have ever bid.
Do all hands get evaluated and if so, how?
In bid72, every fully bid hand gets an evaluation from zero to ten points. The more points you get, the better the contact reached. How the points are allotted is based on special algorithms developed by Bridge72.
See the comprehensive explanation of our scoring system via this link.
My system can never reach the top mark on a board; how is that?
That is possible and unavoidable. The evaluation of a fully bid hand (see comprehensive explanation) is based on the relative merits of final contracts, but is independent of whether a given bidding system can actually reach those contracts.
So for example, it can happen that the top mark of 10 goes to a final contract of 1NT, while the opening hand has 21 high card points and many bidding systems would want you to open 2NT.
After I finish a board I automatically get a new one. What if I want to stop?
If you are through bidding just ignore the new board. It will disappear in 72 hours.
What is the main in-app menu?
In the bottom part three menu items are located:
- boards: here you find the status (my turn, partner’s turn, finished) of each board bid by you
- new board: here you add a new board to bid
- settings: here you find information on your profile and your version

bid72 issues notifications of partner’s bidding by default. You can always stop receiving these notifications by changing this default in the settings menu of your device. This change does not stop you from receiving bids made by partner.
What does bid72 do to deter and stop cheating?
First of all, bid72 is primarily a facility to train your bidding. Cheating, such as telling your hand to your partner during the bidding, would defeat this purpose. It would be like training for a speed cycling match on an e-bike.
That said, bid72 does have specially developed software that easily traces manipulation. Please note the corresponding paragraph in the bid72 Terms & Conditions as cheating is never rewarded.
